Field Notes from Dolomites
We were on a pretty epic road trip back in July, heading all the way from Denmark down to Tuscany and then looping back again. Figured it would be a missed opportunity not to swing through the Dolomites for a bit, just to breathe in that alpine air and see what the fuss was about. Ended up around Cortina, and Tre Cime di Lavaredo was an obvious stop on the list.
Hiking the circular trail there, let's be honest, felt a bit more like a slog than a leisurely stroll with all the camera gear on my back. But you keep an eye out, don't you? Spotted this small pond off the main path and thought it might be worth a quick detour. Turns out, the air was surprisingly still, giving the water a mirror-like quality that doesn't always happen up in the mountains. Caught the peaks perfectly mirrored, which made the earlier struggle with the pack feel a bit more justified. We saw plenty of morning mist clinging to the peaks, and hikers making their way along those winding trails. Pretty good way to break up a long drive, all things considered, and the light always seems to do something interesting up there.
