Esbjerg
Field Notes from Esbjerg
Living in Esbjerg for a couple of years meant the dockside and harbour became pretty familiar territory. You’d often find me out there, especially as the day started to wind down, just watching the light change or catching the locals doing their thing. Those big white statues, the "Men by the Sea," always seemed to be keeping an eye on things, and the whole stretch of coast just had a knack for putting on a decent show.
Heading out towards Fano Island at sunset became a bit of a habit, mostly because the light out there really is something else. The wind turbines always presented a bit of a challenge though; you want that calm, reflective water a long exposure gives you, but still need the blades to look like blades, not just a blur. Ended up blending a few shots to get it right. Caught the sky a few times really putting on a show, all fiery oranges and reds, with the sea just mirroring it perfectly.
It’s one of those places where the light, the water, and even those quiet turbines just work together. Not a bad way to wrap up the day, really, watching the light fade and the harbour lights start to come on. Pretty peaceful, all things considered, and always seemed to pull the camera out of the bag.
