We ended up on a last-minute trip to North-East England, mostly because work had taken a bit of a dive back home. Sometimes these unplanned detours turn out to be the best ones. We were driving through Northumberland and found ourselves down by the Amble estuary. It was one of those days where the sky was just a uniform grey and the mist was rolling in, not exactly the bright, sunny vistas you might hope for. But that kind of atmosphere can be pretty good for a photo if you lean into it. This long wooden pier stretching out into all that haze just seemed to fit the mood perfectly, giving the whole scene a quiet, almost solitary feel.
