Living in the Sutherland Shire these days, Sydney’s coastline and waterways are pretty much on the doorstep, which explains why the camera keeps coming out. It’s a place that really delivers on those early mornings, whether it’s the quiet golden hour hitting the beaches or just a subtle glow pushing through the clouds over the ocean. You get a bit of everything, from the classic sunlit waves to those moody shadows playing off the rock pools, often before most people have even had their first coffee.
I’ve found myself down at Cronulla for more than a few sunrises, sometimes catching families heading out for a surf, other times just appreciating the quiet light over the rocks. Even after a gym session, if the high clouds look promising, a quick detour to Greenpoint Reserve Lookout over Georges River usually pays off with some decent colour and reflections. Then there are the ocean pools, like Shelly Beach, perfect for unwinding after work, or a quick stop at Maroubra to catch a surfer making the most of the last light. It’s not always about the big, dramatic sky; sometimes it’s just the clear blue water or the way the light catches a ship in the bay, always pulling the lens back for another look.
